Fourth Coast’s Shores of Song Festival is our 10th Anniversary celebration of the city that has nurtured our art making for a decade. Focusing on the four major components of our repertoire, song, poetry, and composition, the festival spans four concerts. From Schumann to Chicago kicks off the festival with Robert Schumann’s quintessential 1849 song cycle for four voices, Minnespiel, followed by a curated second half of songs by Chicago composers, each chosen in direct response to a corresponding movement of Minnespiel.
Pianists Andrew Rosenblum and Maria Sumareva join the quartet at the beautifully appointed KOVAL Tasting Room in Ravenswood. The program lasts 90 minutes, and each attendee will receive a drink ticket for one craft cocktail at the bar.

ABOUT OUR VENUE
Founded in 2008 by husband-and-wife team, Dr. Robert Birnecker and Dr. Sonat Birnecker Hart, KOVAL began as the first distillery to open in Chicago since the mid-1800s. Prior to starting the distillery, Sonat and Robert had established careers in government and academia, but chose to forge a new path together. KOVAL means 'smith' or 'blacksmith' in many Eastern European languages, however in Yiddish, it has the added meaning of someone who 'forges ahead.' KOVAL is an homage to Sonat's great grandfather who earned it as a nickname when he dared to move from turn-of-the-century Vienna to the US to start a new life from scratch, while it also honors Robert's grandfather, from whom he learned to distill, as his family name is Schmid, the German equivalent of Koval. Every product KOVAL makes is Certified Organic by Midwestern Organic Services Association (MOSA) and Certified Kosher through the Orthodox Union (OU). The KOVAL Tasting Room is located inside the production distillery (along with the KOVAL store, tours, events, and outdoor patio) at 4241 N. Ravenswood Avenue. Visit the KOVAL tasting room for cocktails, flights, perfect pairs, light bites, international coffee drinks and more.
