The season begins with Soprano | Mezzo Duo featuring ensemble soprano Sarah van der Ploeg and mezzo-soprano Bridget Skaggs singing Dutch, Irish, and English folksong settings; and art songs that explore the origins of humanity and the planet Earth. Featuring music by Jake Heggie, Stacy Garrop, Lori Laitman, Gilda Lyons, Catharina van Rennes, and Benjamin Britten.
The 2021 HD season continues with Tenor | Bass Duo featuring ensemble tenor Ace Gangoso and bass-baritone David Govertsen performing folksong settings from the Philippines and Scandinavia; and art songs that look outward toward the moon, the stars, and the cosmos. Featuring music by Jake Heggie, Stacy Garrop, Edvard Grieg, Florence Price, José Alejandrino, and Robert Schumann.
Join us for a reimagined rebroadcast of the duo concerts: featuring highlights from both the women's and men's programs, and enhanced by narration from the ensemble members themselves. The program features new, previously unaired performances by the quartet.
The season concludes with the first ever HD Chicago songSLAM: a competition for new art song inspired by the poetry slam tradition, and presented in cooperation with Sparks & Wiry Cries and hosted by American composer, Jake Heggie. Help your favorite team win by voting in real time during the live broadcast!
